Our daughter Emma was always going to be a nurse. She knew it and we knew it when she was as young as two and a bit, and quite capable of changing her new baby brother’s nappy (with a little help from mum or dad, with the safety pin.)

It was 1995 and the first year of Emma’s nursing training. She was just seventeen and a half years old, and she was based at and lived at, Harold Wood Hospital, which is sadly

no longer in existence, as it was closed back in 2006 to make way for a large housing development which now stands on the beautiful grounds of the old hospital.

In the February of that year, Emma and one of her friends took a casual trip across to the local Coop Food Store which resulted in an evening for them both at the local police station. They had not been breaking the law themselves, but they became eye-witnesses to an armed robbery at the store.

With quick thinking, they managed to hide in one of the food aisles whilst also still getting a good view of the gunmen.  After it was all over, because of their quick thinking and action, and the evidence they were able to give the police, it enabled the police to later arrest the criminals.

What a wonderful relief it was to us when she later told us what had happened and although it had been a frightening experience for two young girls, to say the least, fortunately, neither of them had been hurt. The Lord intervened, guiding them to safety, and we give thanks and praise to the Lord who kept them safe, and shielded them from any harm!
