Life and all that Jazz

Malc and I like music. Pretty much any music – so long as it is good music. We like music from all eras and from all genres.
I can remember as a small child watching ‘Ready Steady Go!’, a great TV music programme, which my parents didn’t mind me watching. Before this there were programmes like ‘Six-Five Special’ and later ‘Thank Your Lucky Stars’ but that was before my time, but I do remember my mum and dad telling me about one of my dad’s work colleagues who was in a band, and appeared on one of those shows. Derek was a really good pianist and although he did not become ‘famous’ as a result of his TV appearance he continued to play at various venues with his own Jazz Trio. He was booked for many weddings and nightclubs around the local area. He was a good friend of my dad and we were often invited to visit Derek and his wife Pat at their little cottage out in the country. I got on very well with Derek’s little family including his daughter, who was just a little younger than me. As she grew, she would sometimes sing with her dad’s Trio. She had a very good voice and was hoping to make a career out of singing once she left school.
When Malc and I were planning our wedding we originally booked a disco operated by a friend’s brother but at the last minute he pulled out of the booking (I can’t recall why) but it left us in a bit of a pickle with no music for the reception and little time to find another disco, so my dad asked Derek if he and his Jazz Trio would play at our wedding evening reception and thankfully, he was available and agreed. If I am honest, I was a little worried as Malc was not keen on that option when my dad first suggested it but come the evening, following our amazing wedding, everybody enjoyed the live music and had a great time - especially Malc and me.
Malc and I have had such enjoyable moments in our life together, and are still enjoying wonderful times having been married since 1975. There is never a dull moment, as we serve our Lord and Saviour. The Lord always brings along things that we enjoy doing together and we have lots of joint interests that will keep us busy until we are taken out of this dying world at the rapture of the church.
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
What a wonderful assurance we enjoy when we are trusting Jesus and waiting for that call from God that will take us home to heaven. You can have that same assurance.
