Lily had known Nathan for a long time. She had heard that he was now in a famous rock band and she was pleased for him, but lately, he had become involved in a life of partying, drugs and drink.
He was married and living in a posh house on the 'other side of town.' Many times she had written to him telling him about Jesus. But he never replied.
One day she felt the Lord laying it upon her heart to visit him one more time to tell him again about the Lord.
Now she was standing at the front door ringing the bell - waiting for somebody to answer.
Inside the house, Nathan's wife, Chloe, hears the bell and comes to the door.

Chloe:
"Can I help you?"

Lily:
"Yes, I'd like to speak to Nathan James if that's possible."

Chloe:
"Just a minute I'll go and get him."

Nathan comes to the door. He has been drinking and his voice is a little slurred.

Nathan:
"Oh, it's you. What are you doing here?"

Lily:
"I've come to see you of course."

Nathan:
"Who sent you here? Why did you come?"

Lily:
"I have been concerned about you since I heard about the life you are leading.
My Goodness just look at you, drugs and drink is it? God told me to come."

Nathan:
"What's this, a lecture or something?"

Lily:
"No, Nathan, I'm your friend. Don't you realise how you are ruining your life?"

Nathan:
"What do you mean? I've done pretty well. I'm famous, got loads of money, a nice home, and an attractive wife. I've got a good life."

Lily:
"You may think this is life, but it's not."

Nathan:
"Who are you to tell me what sort of life I should be leading?"

Lily:
"I am not trying to tell you how to run your life.
I am just trying to tell you that some of the things you are involved with will ruin your life.
If you don't stop now you will destroy yourself."

Nathan:
"Yeah? So what do you suppose I should do?"

Lily:
"Give your life to Jesus."

Nathan:
"Oh, I get it. You want me to become religious, like you.
I'm not into religion thanks I've already tried it - several times."

Lily:
"But Nathan, they were false religions you tried.
Jesus is the only one who can satisfy and supply your every need. Didn't you get my letters?"

Nathan:
"I got them. Anyway, what has Jesus got to offer me that I don't already have?"

Lily:
"Well, eternal security for a start.
God's Word says "It is appointed unto men once to die and then comes judgement."

Nathan:
"I've had enough of this. I'm going back indoors."

He shuts the door in her face. Lily sits down on the step and although she would like to cry, she feels the Lord strengthen her. She doesn't let her feelings show but she is still sad - feeling rejected by someone who had been a friend for so long.

They had known each other since they were kids but gone their separate ways as they grew older. Now here she was again trying to explain that he needed Jesus in his life.

Nathan looks out of the window and sees that she hasn't gone. He goes back outside to ask her why she is still hanging around.

Nathan:
"Still here then?"

She turns around and looks at him.

Lily:
"Yes, I'm still here. Nathan, you are making the biggest mistake of your life and you know it but your just not prepared to let go.
Let Jesus into your life - He came that you might have life in all its abundance!"

Nathan:
"I've told you already. I do have a life. I have a really great life."

Lily:
"If this is what you call life, then there is no life at all."

Nathan:
"I'm OK - really."

Lily:
"Well, there's not much more I can say. I won't waste anymore of your time. I'll be on my way - I expect your guests are waiting for you."

(As she leaves she puts her hand in her pocket and produces a little leaflet and hands it to him.)

Nathan:
"Look Lily, I know you mean well and thanks for the advice but Jesus is not really not for me.
I'll read the leaflet and if I do decide to give Jesus a go I'll let you know."

A week later and Lily's phone rings.

Lily:
"Hello."

Nathan:
"Hello, Lily?"

Lily:
"Yes. Nathan, is that you? How are you?"

Nathan:
"Oh, just great. I thought you'd like to know I read that leaflet you left me.
I didn't understand it at first, so I read it again and then it all started to make sense.
I realised that Jesus does love me, he's been knocking on my heart's door. He wasn't going to give up.
It was me who wasn't prepared to ask Him in. I now know that when Jesus died on the cross that wasn't the end to life - but a new beginning to life.
I have repented of my sin and invited Jesus into my life to take control. I thought you'd like to know."

Lily:
"Well, that's really great news. How did Chloe react when you told her that you had given your life to Jesus?"

Nathan:
"At first she laughed. She couldn't believe it, then when she had settled down a bit she was unhappy about it.
But now she's beginning to ask questions herself. Let's just say the Lord is working on her."
