Our eldest son Matthew
Matthew has severe learning difficulties, is autistic, and suffered many epileptic seizures. I make no apology for saying Matthew's upbringing was very difficult, obviously for him, but also for the whole family. But with Jesus, all things are made easier by faith, and by trusting only in Him.
One night I took Matthew up to bed and we first went into the bathroom to brush his teeth. Whilst in there I told Matthew that Jesus loved him, and looking straight at me, he became very calm and peaceful, as though he was really thinking about what I had just said to him.
I then said, "Matthew, lift up your arm if you love Jesus" and he did!
I then said to him "Keep your arm up, if you want to invite Jesus into your heart and life" and again - he did!
Now, I believe the Bible is very clear about anyone without the mental capacity to understand the idea of sin, or to be able to repent of sin and to accept the Gospel message. They will be safe in the arms of Jesus forever. But I do also believe that Jesus encouraged Matthew to raise his arm and keep it up when I spoke to him for my encouragement. I went over to Matthew and prayed with him and he seemed a lot more content afterward than he would normally be - especially when it came to the struggle to brush his teeth that usually had.
In the days after this incident, the number of seizures that Matthew had greatly started to reduce. The Lord answers prayer and though Matthew still cannot speak his overall calmness has increased and the number of seizures he has is much lower. During that time he was having around 40 grand mal seizures a month. He hardly has any these days, praise the Lord!
Matthew moved on when he reached the age of 29 and lives in a wonderful Care Home where many of the staff are Christians and he regularly has attended a local church. The people at the church are so friendly to Matthew and always welcome him on Sunday and say hello, which he really likes.
We praise the Lord who has saved our family from a lost eternity and we know that soon, and very soon, as He clearly foretells in His Word the Bible, Jesus is going to call us out of this wicked and dying world, all those whom He has saved and will be sharing eternity with us in Heaven, which He has been preparing for over 2000 years.
