No Charge
Do you recognise the title of the song? It was a song released many years ago by a singer of the day. It recounts the story of a young boy who after completing his chores around the house, goes to his mother and presents her with a list of jobs he has done and the charge for each one.
His mother reads the list, looks at the charge, and then looks down at her son and says:
‘’Son, I carried you for nine months.
I fed you and I clothed you.
I nursed you when you were ill.
I wiped away your tears when you were sad.
I helped you with your studies and I shared in all of your experiences, your hurts, and your difficulties.
For all these things son, there is – no charge”
By the time the boy’s mother has finished the little boy has tears in his eyes. He looks at his mother and writes on the bottom of the list: PAID IN FULL
You know, whether we have given much thought to it or not, God has done so much more for us:
He created us and loves us.
He has seen all our heartaches and our sorrows.
He has looked upon us with compassion and seen our utter hopelessness and our need for a Saviour.
He has prepared a place in heaven for each one of us.
And yet God says to us, there is - NO CHARGE.
All we need to do is believe Him, trust Him and receive His offer of free salvation in Jesus.
The child in the song learned not to seek reward, but rather, to receive the free love of his parent.
Shouldn’t we learn to receive the free love of God, who wants to be our heavenly father?
“But as many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13)
Will you respond to the love of God, which cost Him the life of His only begotten Son - but which comes to us with no charge?
