Are We There Yet?
Well, that’s a question which all of our generation’s children have asked …once or twice!
The story is told of Arthur Mee’s little daughter Marjorie, who was always asking questions. Her harassed mother once exclaimed, “Oh, for a book that answered all these questions!”
And so, the Children’s Encyclopaedia was born – the first instalment of the Encyclopaedia appeared in 1908, initially in fortnightly instalments and later as bound volumes, and published up until 1964. Although it was published for all those years it probably didn’t answer all the questions children asked.
Of course, now – in this digital age – we live in a world where information is so easily accessed over the internet. A world, where no matter how much we know, there is always more to be fascinated by.
Do we walk through this life constantly appreciating and constantly marvelling at the world in which we live? Sometimes we marvel at how good people can be but sometimes at how bad. We see technology used for great benefit but also used to cause much harm.
Ultimately, knowledge can be used for good or for evil.
And not only children have questions – we all do. Questions like: Why are we here? Where are we going? What is the purpose of my life?
God wants us to have the answers to those questions – answers that will bring great joy, blessing and peace. He wants us to gain the knowledge of His great love for us and His great plan for our lives. As we walk through the One Book that really does have the answers to life’s questions – the Bible, we learn how the world began, how the world will end, and how we can get to know God's Son Jesus Christ, as our own personal Saviour and Lord.
In the Bible, we will find the answers to our questions, and they will result in joy, peace, forgiveness and eternal life.
And that – is a book worth reading!
For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
