Candy Sweets and Chocolate Treats
by Sue
Candy Sweets and chocolate treats
Ease our sugar levels high
The Mars bars, and the Milky Ways
Will point us to the sky.
We Aero up and then come down
Like bubbles falling to the ground
But then we are like Smarties and scatter to the floor
Embarrassed by our weaknesses we head towards the door.
We will rise to our feet again
From the ‘sweet shop’ we will go
Life’s real sweet things are in God’s Word
These sweet things we can know.
The Bible’s more than candy, sitting on a plate.
Why not reach and take it before you are too late.
Don’t leave it sitting on the plate, (else you’ll be very sorry mate)
Take a step of faith
You’ll find the Bible true
God’s word is more than sticky sweets
Taste the scriptures and you’ll find
It’s nourishment to you.
Best not eat it slowly for time just will not wait
Jesus is coming soon to sweep us off our feet
What could be more tasty than God’s own heavenly sweets?
Don’t delay the tasting - taste and see and eat.
Heavenly sweets are waiting
They simply are the best
Why don’t you put your faith in Jesus?
And taste them while you rest.
So taste and see the Lord is Good
Read God’s word - you know you should
He’ll save your soul - no time to wait
Don’t just settle for sticky ‘sweets’ – life’s ‘candy on a plate.’
Fairground
by Sue
Our life is like a fairground
If we care to take a look
Our lives just like carousel - round and round
Trying to find that solid ground
The Big Wheel circles high in the sky
But life is not high all the time
The Roller Coaster - fast and slow
Reminding us of hustle, bustle the life we know
Dodgem cars are buzzing - lots of lights and sound
Our life is like a Dodgem when we stop to look around
The bumps we face in life - we end up feeling bruised
Even feeling torn and battered and sometimes even used.
Though the Fairground sounds and lights
Are appealing to the eye
But what's the purpose of this sparkle?
If that’s all we have - then die.
Then eating candyfloss, which gets stuck in our hair
It’s like those sticky situations we can’t hide or bear
Our boots get muddy in the fairground mud and mire
But we know that God is Truth and every man a liar
Now the fairground is like the world - our picture over all
Do we want to just continue - living like a fool?
For the fairground comes - the fairground will go
Just like this world, and all we know.
New life can be found in Jesus, my friend
This world is coming to its end
Jesus heals the broken heart - gives new life from above
It’s a challenge you face now - and a life change you would love.
So leave the fairground of this world behind and in Jesus you’ll be found
And faith will set your feet upon the higher, solid ground.
No more sticky situations
No more ups and downs
Give your heart to Jesus and then you’re homeward bound.
The Meeting
by Sue
It was down at the cemetery
Where an elderly couple met
They would meet every Wednesday
Sitting on the same old bench.
Having lost their spouses
Both still suffering with grief
They found comfort in one another
And spoke of their future plans in brief.
Weeks went by and months passed
The elderly man packed up courage to ask
“Would you like to come out for afternoon tea?”
“I thought we should take a trip to Southend-on-Sea!”
She accepted, it was the right time now
He bought her a posy of her favourite flower
The elderly man plucked up courage
And popped the question, told her about his future intentions!
“I love you”, he told her
“And I want you to be my wife”
He had grieved long enough now
It was time to start a new life.
She pondered over at what he said,
And smiled at him, her answer was “Yes,”
With smiles and with kisses together rejoiced
Telling everyone in the tea-room “We’re getting married”
In a loud voice!
Many couples marry again
When a loved one departs
God blesses, those who trust in Him
Where a new life can start.
God has plans for your life
He knows what you’re going through
But God wants you to have good things in life
And he is waiting to bless you!
Jeremiah says 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you
To prosper you and not to harm you
Plans to give you hope and a future.
A Message for Our Time
by Sue
Wars and conflict - fear and dread
Around the world today
People’s hearts are failing
Overwhelmed and dismayed
Fragile lives, people wandering
Not knowing what to do
Immersed in total turmoil
Such tragedy, but true
Failing governments and lawlessness
Deliverance, is what we need
But who can we turn to?
We run and hide but yet, not seek.
Hailstones and thunderstorms
Blustery winds and rain
This world is dying slowly
In its agony and pain.
Like a woman in childbirth
Pains experienced every minute
What can we do to change this
When sinful man is in it?
The end of time is imminent
Time is very short
Famine, drought and injustice
Even at our door
Let us go then, to the house of God
And let us learn His ways
And let us turn from war and lust
Unto the Ancient of Days
There is a time appointed
When the Lord will come again
To draw those who love Him to Himself
From this world’s torment and pain
Will you make the decision
To trust and follow Him?
Jesus waits outside your hearts door
Will you invite him in?
