A Curious But Scary Story
It was March 1945 and in an old bomb crater at a park near Romford in Essex. Five small boys had dug for themselves, a cave and inside they had made themselves comfortable on a bedding of straw.
As they talked happily three large bulldozers arrived to begin to fill in the crater. Two of the drivers heard children’s voices - but there was no one to be seen and the Job went on. Happily, when the Bulldozers had almost reached the spot where the tiny hand-made cave was, the entrance was found and in it, lying on their straw, were the five small boys, completely oblivious to the fact that they had come within minutes of being buried alive. It was a very narrow escape for them.
Without Jesus in our lives, we are in an even more dangerous situation – and none of us know how long we have left in this life. We could be just minutes from an even worse ending to life.
Worse – because if we die without knowing Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we will not reach heaven but will spend eternity in hell. Hell is not the ‘glamourised’ place where some people like to imagine that they can do what they like and spend eternity with their mates. Nothing like it!
Hell is described in the Bible as the place prepared for the devil and his angels – not for mankind. But because God is Holy, sin cannot remain in His presence and so all that have not turned away from their sin will spend eternity in that horrible place.
Jesus Himself warns us in a very graphic and chilling image:
“So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 13:49-50)
Salvation in Jesus Christ is the only way to avoid that eternally dangerous situation. But If we come by faith to Jesus Christ, He will lead and direct our path to God and will make a way where eternity is safe, secure, and full of joy, peace, and every blessing of God.
