One elderly man who we were friendly with at our church before he passed away, was like a “Gentle Giant“. He was always there to help, whatever crisis came along, and not just to Malc and I, but to others of our brothers and sisters in Christ at church. He loved life and had a genuine joy and loyalty to his family and friends.

Such a tribute reminds me of King David as he praised God in when he said: Thy gentleness has made me great.  David attributed gentleness to God, the divine Spirit, who is the life and creator of us all. Even though it may seem unusual for a successful man to be called gentle, such examples prove that love, kindness, generosity are decidedly natural qualities we can scan society and find shining symbols of how divine love is actually expressing itself everywhere.

God’s nature is often reflected in simple, ordinary ways. A woman comforts a lost child in the supermarket and unites him with his mother. A clerk runs to catch a customer who has left his wallet on the counter. Someone holds a door or gives directions. Though these happenings may seem minor, they indicate a continuity of good throughout the universe. Gentle, loving acts hint at a Spiritual fact: that it is possible that we can each truly reflect God’s likeness, made to express only good. Every day, you and I have opportunities to express this love.

Perhaps those nearest to us need tenderness more than we realise. Our good friend we called the friendly giant is now in heaven and joining in praise with the angels there.

What about you, dear friend. Have you ever met someone who is like a gentle giant, who will go all out to help you with whatever is thrown at you in life?

Our dear friend is now with Jesus and we miss him but Jesus is a far greater friend.  He is the best friend anybody could have.  In the Bible He says

"I have called you friends" (John 15:15)

To all those who have a relationship with Him, God is Love and once you are His He will never let you go. He understands you and is the best Friend you could ever want, and He gives life everlasting to those who put their trust in Him.
