Afraid to Die?
An elderly and sick man turned to his Doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said: “Doctor, I am afraid to die. Please tell me what lies on the other side when we die.”
The doctor quietly replied, “I don’t know.“
“You don’t know what’s on the other side? You call yourself a Christian, but you cannot tell me the answer?” said the man.
By now they had reached the door and the Doctor was holding the handle of the door. On the other side of the door came the sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped up at him with a show of great excitement.
Turning to his patient the Doctor said:
“Did you notice my dog? He has never been in this room before. He didn’t know what was on the inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing. I know that my Master is there and that is enough for me.”
Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)
