Get Out The Tupperware - It's a Party!

Tupperware parties became really common in the 50s and 60s enabling women to form their own businesses from home and helping many to gain a good deal of independence. Founder Earl Tupper appointed Brownie Wiser as his head of sales and she trained others in the way she had learned from selling cleaning products to women at home, to selling Tupperware - airtight plastic containers for storing food.
With friends around for the party, the model quickly grew into a worldwide multimillion-dollar success and Tupperware parties soon became a way to connect with old friends, make new ones, and participate in a booming consumer economy taking place in living rooms.
When I was growing up, one of the ladies at my mum's church arranged to hold a Tupperware party. That meant an opportunity to join with friends, have a natter and buy some Tupperware. My mum always enjoyed meeting up with her Christian friends, so this would be a very good evening. Her friends were always kind to me and suggested to my mum to bring me along to the evening.
So we left my dad sitting, watching TV, and mum and I went to the Tupperware party. There we found piles of lunch boxes, dishes, mugs, cereal bowls, and even cutlery which you could use on picnics or at the beach. The incentive to attend the Tupperware party was to serve cups of tea and cakes. But the priority was to sell the plastic goods first. The tea and cakes could wait until after the guests had bought their lunch boxes and cereal bowls.
Tupperware Parties seem to be less of an attraction nowadays as such household items can be easily bought online and delivered right to our doorstep. But we all had a lovely time and went home laden with lunch boxes and all manner of plastic containers.
Attending church and hearing good news, and having fellowship with friends old and new also seems to have diminished these days. But the good news is that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever" (Hebrews Ch13 v8) and this good news. Even if there is less attendance at churches, God has not left us without access to His Word, the Bible, nor has He stopped reaching out to all who are looking for answers to life and its inevitable trials and difficulties.
God has raised up people to bring that good news straight into our homes, not on the doorstep. Through the internet and the technology of today, there is access to the truth of the Bible readily available for all who seek the truth.
This very site is designed to help and encourage all who visit, to learn how much God loves us and how He demonstrated that love when He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus to die for us on the cross at Calvary. There, Jesus paid the price in full for our sin and poured out His precious blood to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
It is still a great idea to try and get to a local church, but we have little excuse these days not to hear and read about the salvation which Jesus offers us.
Jesus' death and resurrection give us hope.
Not a 'I hope there is something good out there for me' kind of hope, but an absolute assurance, that as we trust in Him, we will find forgiveness, peace and joy, and all the love we need - for now and for our eternal future, secure in Him - and we don't need to buy anything!
