In Pursuit of Happiness
King Solomon was convinced he knew how to find happiness and because he had huge wealth and vast resources at his command, he was able to pursue it.
But after gaining everything he had ever wanted, he reluctantly concluded that his life, was still empty and without meaning.
And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil.
Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11)
His search for lasting happiness had failed, and his soul was still empty.
Are you in danger of making the same mistake that King Solomon made – convinced that the things of this world will bring you happiness and peace and so are pursuing them with all your might? Don’t be deceived: they never will satisfy you or fill that emptiness.
And the reason is that you were made to know joy and peace in God, through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
