Malc's brother Andy
Andy was Penny's husband and a roofer by trade, often doing repair work on the roof of our church. One time the church roof needed some major repairs done and so Malc asked Andy if he could do the work. It was a large job, but Andy said he would be able to tackle it, and work got underway.
Soon after Andy had started the job - the first morning, he telephoned the house hoping to speak to Malc. I took the call but had to inform Andy that Malc was not home, but at work. He started to explain to me what the issue was that he wanted to talk to Malc about, (not that I would have been much help), and said: "I'm on the church roof right now, in front of the cross." I couldn't believe what he had said, so I repeated it back to him: "You are on the roof standing in front of the cross?" "Yes," he replied. But I knew there wasn't a cross on our church roof.
Well I could only think that Andy was seeing spiritually a cross before him, so I said to him "Andy, do you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour" and he replied, "Yes."
I had the privilege of praying with Andy and leading him to Jesus as he repeated the prayer I led him with, he came to repentance, and I knew right there, that Andy had been saved.
Malc and I rejoiced together when he came home from work and I told him all that had happened - Andy had come to faith in Jesus and had been born into the family of God.
Sadly, Andy fell ill not long after this time and following four years of poor health, passed away. But the great news was that we knew he had gone to heaven because this is the certain promise which God has made, in His word - the Bible, to all who believe.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5)
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Do you have that assurance for when your time comes to face death? You can have!
