Our UnfathomableGod
In February 2023, the James Webb Space Telescope made another remarkable discovery. Beyond where humankind had previously been able to peer into the universe, it discovered six new galaxies. This discovery upended much of what we know about Space. One astronomer remarked: “It turns out we found something so unexpected it actually creates problems for Science Anastrophe.” Which was said almost apologetically.
But it seems that God Himself continues to surprise us all.
The Prophet Isaiah, long before the advent of space telescopes, seems to be talking directly to the scientists of today in Isaiah 40:28:
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He goes on, predating that astrophysicists’ words:
He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.”
But if we stop there, we miss the beauty of this Passage. He who is unfathomable is not impersonal. It is He who created those six galaxies, and all the others:
“Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”
(Isaiah 40:26)
and is the same God who:
“….gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak”
(Isaiah 40:29)
The God of the universe is also the personal God who helps those who hope in Him to find strength and energy in all things:
“…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
(Isaiah 40:31)
Rest assured, the unfathomable God is the One we know – the One who speaks into our lives with power and strength.
