Pie, Mash and Eels
Claude Stanley Wiggins – a famous Essex house builder, lived in one of his own houses when he was first married, to his cousin Lois, who had moved with her family from Scotland to Essex. When they moved in the young Lois was surprised to discover that their home had neither gas or electricity and that the water supply comprised of just one tap in the kitchen. She had been used to electricity and a full water supply to the house.
There were other surprises too for the young girl - such as when she came home one day to find that her husband had left some live eels in a bucket in the kitchen and which had escaped and were slithering their way up the stairs. She quickly shut the door to the kitchen until her husband came home to deal with them!
Malc and I bought a house which was built by the builder Wiggins and lived happily in it for over twenty years (with electricity and gas and water we could use 🙂 We believe that house was built during the late 60s/70s. It certainly saw many changes before and after we moved into it, but it still remained strong and stands strong today. Stan Wiggins was a committed Christian man, and he committed to building good solid homes, most of which still stand today.
The Bible speaks of our lives as needing a good spiritual foundation to enable us to stand strong. When we stand on the word of God (the Bible) and His promises we are indeed standing on the strongest of foundations.
Stand on God’s promises:
For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. (Hebrews 3:4)
My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places, though hail comes down on the forest, and the city is brought low in humiliation. (Isaiah 32:18-19)
