Local residents were stunned on waking up one morning, on an estate in East London, to see a herd of deer grazing outside their front doors. The Animals had walked several miles from their parkland home, crossing some busy roads on the way, to arrive at grass verges between blocks of apartments, that seemed to have suffered less through the very dry summer which the country experienced this year.

The deer, not normally found in such a built-up, people-filled, area as this, were from one of five herds that have been breeding in this semi-rural location for hundreds of years and had come looking for green, lush grass to eat.

A local conservation group had requested that people give the animals space and warned against taking photos with them. But one man said that he and his family were shocked so he grabbed his camera and started to approach them when he noticed that other people were out there too, and the deer seemed completely comfortable with that.  But although the community had come out to greet the deer, Santa was nowhere to be seen!

We humans can be somewhat invasive, and maybe this was nature trying to reclaim some of its space back.

We should respect and remember that God’s creation is for us to enjoy and, as we approach Christmas, also remember the birth of Jesus Christ - God’s only begotten Son, sent at Christmas, as the Saviour.

Actually, we shouldn’t worry too much about looking for the absent Santa – but instead search diligently, for the ever-present Saviour.

Jesus said: “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”  (Luke 11:9-10)

If the Lord Jesus Christ is missing in our lives, the Bible calls us to repent of our sin, be born again, and invite Him to enter in and abide inside our empty hearts. Will you do this and make this Christmas a special one?
