The Healing of Jack Hayford
In his own words:
It hasn’t only been in my childhood that the Lord has healed me, but I’d like to share with you the following because of the lifetime impact that healing makes upon a child.
When I was one year old, I was supposed to die. There was something wrong with my neck that the doctors couldn’t fix and it was inevitable that with the passage of time the condition would eventually twist my neck and I would die. The doctors knew there was nothing that could be done to change it.
For five months, three times a week, my mother took me to a doctor for treatments to temporarily relieve my pain. But the doctor was so sure there wasn’t anything that could be done to correct it, that he only charged my folks for six treatments even though he administered somewhere between 50 and 60.
My parents didn’t know the Lord. My mother’s cousin didn’t know the Lord either, but she’d heard about the Foursquare Church in Long Beach, California. And she’d heard that at that church, Jesus had healed people. And so she wrote down what was wrong with me, and took the note she had written to the church. There, she found somebody and asked,
“There’s a little baby that’s dying, and I brought this note. Will you pray for the baby?” The people at the church said, “We will,” and they brought the prayer request to the Wednesday night prayer meeting at that church.
The very next day, my parents began to notice that things had changed. My mother’s cousin told her she’d taken a prayer request over to the church and within the next few days, the Doctor said, “This baby is well. There is nothing wrong with him.” And not only did the doctor declare me well, but he also refused to take any money from my parents, even for the few payments he was originally going to charge. And explaining why, he said to my parents, “I had nothing to do with the healing of this baby. This has to have been something that God did.”
Not only do I know that it is recorded in the Bible, that Jesus healed many people during His earthly ministry, but also that He is “the same, yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
And I know that I would not be alive, and I wouldn’t be able to talk about Jesus to other people today if He had not healed me when I was a baby.
