Where Do I Go From Here?
Is that sometimes the cry of your heart? It is for many people.
Even King David - Israel’s greatest king, prayed:
Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.
(Psalm 143:8)
Christians probably pray more for guidance than for anything else. This is because we sincerely want to know God’s will for us. And yet sometimes it seems hard – even a little difficult to understand. But perhaps one of our problems is our own inconsistency.
We can demonstrate that by asking ourselves a series of questions:
Would I seek God’s will in the choice of a husband, wife, or house?
What about buying a car?
How about a refrigerator?
A Newspaper?
If you are like most, you probably answered ‘Yes’ to the first question, but by the time you got to the last one, the answer was probably ‘No’ and somewhere down the list the answer changed to ‘maybe.’ What does that tell us? It suggests that we divide life into big things and little things. There are things that are important and things not so important. But sometimes we set the standard of what we think is important, and it turns out to be not right.
Let’s ask another question:
Is God interested in every area of our lives? He most definitely is. Look what He says in Jeremiah 29:11 :
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Surely, He is the best One to go to, in our time of need, and to help us make right decisions. The Lord knows us so well, inside and outside, and will guide us to a place where we will know the best route to take.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and (Proverbs 3:5)
